AFREES

Afrees is a revolutionary hip-hop group of young ethiopians. These four dynamic rappers refer to themselves as the "algawerash of today" and the inheritors of the throne.When asked why they named their first album "algawerash" during their interview with abesha.com (an Ethiopian webzine) they answered "We chose the title 'Algawerash' (successor to the throne), cause this word expresses a lot of attributes or aims of the crew: That as youth, we are playing an important part to/for the nation, the next generation. We have a future with responsibilities, royalty, wildness, power, and purpose..."

The four members of the crew are Pamfalon, Kimba, Seyfu and Rasbawlet.

Pamfalon

Pamfalon (a.k.a. the chosen one) Sometimes i hear friends asking themselves, if it's woth to live the life i live. It's not easy to spend the childhood without parents in a foreign country. You might think i'm happy to live here, but damn, the life we live is not so easy it seems to be; you have to be strong. I got my power from my visions, dreams and missions. I feel like i am a chosen one. I compare myself with phamphalon (lived more than 1000 years ago). But there is a little bit difference between us, i learned to fear more than to love!! every time you hear my voice remember that you hear more than self produced rap. It's filled with pain, love, hate, mission, fear, feeling, message and sometimes just nonsense 'cause i'm the youngest but the bombest.

Kimba

Kimba was the name of a connection consisting of many young rebels in addis back in the 90's. the name stood for power, unity and hope. they helped each other in trouble times & presented a powerful movement with untouchable rights. The head of the group was a childhood friend of mine. In 1999 he was killed by night-guardians without any reason. This group became apart and the movement was wrecked. Because of my deep sorrow i decided to let this movement live on in me. a whole tadagi-movement is in me. I am a rebel, a new generation rebel, an afrees rebel.

Seyfu

The revolution will not be televised; the revolution is here!!! when we are talking about revolution, you might don't know what we mean. This is a kind of revolution for the new generation "the algawerash-generation". we want to built you a new home in your mind, in your heart. We want to change the way of your thinking about yourselves. We are tired of this sorrow and trouble. We want to see a new proud one afriva. It is your right so get up. it is your time don't sleep. It's a new generation let's be different. And if you aren't an african or if you don't understand my stuff or what i mean with revolution, it doesn't matter. Let's rock the beat!!! a proud black african!

Rasbawlet

"My father used to tell me knowledge is power. My mother used to force me to go to school. My teachers tried to show me what you know is yours. Einstein spoke, you are what u know. and i use to tell my people listen to these people!!!" I was asked by most, why we don't rap in german or in english. So let me ask you something. Did jesus go to the people who was sinning? I've got a mission and a message for few and they understand the language i am rappin'. There are a lot of rappers out there rapping in german or english so why should i also rap in these languages when i can express what i wanna say in amharic better.
